London hits its annual crescendo this weekend – the 799-year-old Lord Mayor’s Show ushers back a massive procession of horses, coaches and floats, and a river pageant, topped off with fireworks in the evening.

The show inspired Samuel Pepys, who mentions it in his diaries, along with Hogarth and Canaletto, who painted it. So, where do you go to film those awe-inspiring locations in our capital?

Albert Embankment
That’s London at a glance!

The Embankment’s unrivalled views of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament will be very familiar.

In fact, it runs along the south side of the Thames for about a mile from the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) Building at Vauxhall, along the river walkway lined by cast-iron sturgeon lamps, taking in Lambeth Palace and St Thomas’ Hospital, up to Westminster Bridge.

Blackheath
Stand and deliver

A highwayman’s haunt of old, the open spaces of Blackheath look very much as they did in the bad old bandit days, with period buildings clustered about.

Today it hosts one of the most spectacular firework displays for Bonfire Night. The expansive views over London take in Canary Wharf and beyond.

Bankside
The clamour of old and new

Set up along the riverside walkway here for shots of St Pauls Cathedral, the Walkie-Talkie building, Gherkin – and the rest of London’s City skyline.

Taking in Shakespeare’s Globe, Tate Modern, Clink St, Borough Market, Millenium Bridge, Southwark Cathedral and the Golden Hinde, Bankside runs from London Bridge to Blackfriars Bridge.
