Photofusion presents: STILL / MOVING DSLR Film Festival

20 – 28 September 2014

Photofusion are excited to announce the launch of STILL / MOVING: the inaugural DSLR Film Festival that will take place in Brixton later this year.

Inspired by developments in HD video-capable DSLR cameras, STILL / MOVING will be an eight-day festival exploring the ways that photographers, artists and film-makers are engaging with the convergence of digital photography, video and the contemporary moving image.

The STILL / MOVING DSLR Film Festival will have public screenings at locations throughout central Brixton, and include:

– evening screens on Windrush Square and The Ritzy

– film installations

– a gallery exhibition

– events, panel discussion and master classes.

The programme will be a combination of selected submissions, covering a range of genres including animation, documentary, fiction, experimental, music video and fashion, and historical films directed by photographers.

A series of events, panel discussions and master classes will explore the creative phenomenon, blurred boundaries and freedoms that the development of HD video-capable digital SLR cameras have opened up. The exploitation of this technology has revolutionized film-making – mobilising and giving voice to film-makers previously denied the opportunity- and created a fertile ‘middle ground’ where previously distinct mediums and professional disciplines overlap.

In advance of the festival, Photofusion will host a 48-hour film challenge, from 29 – 31 August, inviting the local and London-wide community to participate in the festival with the winners being screened on the closing night.

The STILL / MOVING DSLR Film Festival is an extension of Photofusion’s photographic grounding as a not-profit arts centre specialising
in photography and digital arts. Located in the hub of Brixton, one of the most vibrant and multicultural boroughs of London, Photofusion serves to support and encourage emerging and practicing artists through it’s exhibitions, educational and outreach programmes alongside a diverse range of facilities and services for analogue and digital, still and moving image.
