Soothing the black dog with the black horse, Lloyds comes to Lambeth

Posted on

The Lloyds Bank horse, in its latest ad, clip clops down a Lambeth Street, set in the 1960s. To an acoustic version of Wings by Birdy, a little girl in pigtails races down Whittlesey Street after a horse drawn milk float.

The combination is a well-played attempt to warm our cockles, bringing back the iconic black horse for the first time since the financial crisis. At the height of the crisis, the bank rescued HBOS with the help of a £22.5bn Government bail-out.

Reintroducing the black horse is designed to celebrate the logo’s 250th anniversary.

Certainly the production warmed local residents’ hearts, making very generous donations to the Lambeth Estate Residents Association and Hatch Row Housing Co-operative, which will be put toward activities to benefit all locals.
