We’re helping Southwark residents get paid experience in the TV and film industries and encouraging production companies to donate to local good causes.
Southwark has provided the setting for many major film and TV productions. Over the past year several large-scale feature films and TV dramas have been filmed here. Some of the highlights include Vanity Fair, Bohemian Rhapsody, MotherFatherSon, Men in Black, The Rook, The Departure, Summer of Rockets, Rocketman, Gangs of London, Pennyworth, The Crown, Silent Witness and Killing Eve. Southwark has also been used as a backdrop for commercials such as Amazon, Adidas, M&S, Boden and The Telegraph.
The Southwark Film Office manages professional film and photography in the borough and its aim is to ensure communities receive genuine benefits from filming in the area.
Top priority is to ensure filmmakers come to an agreement with people in the community before they start filming.
That includes donating to residents’ associations or local good causes as a goodwill gesture. Local associations of residents or traders, community projects or local charitable causes have all benefitted.
It’s not just about donations, production companies are also encouraged to offer on set film opportunities for young people in Southwark such as positions as runners or marshals.
